چکیده

The spectrum of a network or graph G = (V,E) with adjacency matrix A, consists of the eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian L = I − D−1/2AD−1/2. This set of eigenvalues encapsulates many aspects of the structure of the graph, including the extent to which the graph posses community structures at multiple scales. We study the problem of approximating the spectrum λ = (λ1, . . . , λ|V |), 0 ≤ λ1,≤ . . . ,≤ λ|V | ≤ 2 of G in the regime where the graph is too large to explicitly calculate the spectrum. We present a sublinear time algorithm that, given the ability to query a random node in the graph and select a random neighbor of a given node, computes a succinct representation of an approximation λ̃ = (λ̃1, . . . , λ̃|V |), 0 ≤ λ̃1,≤ . . . ,≤ λ̃|V | ≤ 2 such that ‖λ̃− λ‖1 ≤ |V |. Our algorithm has query complexity and running time exp(O(1/ )), independent of the size of the graph, |V |. We demonstrate the practical viability of our algorithm on 15 different real-world graphs from the Stanford Large Network Dataset Collection, including social networks, academic collaboration graphs, and road networks. For the smallest of these graphs, we are able to validate the accuracy of our algorithm by explicitly calculating the true spectrum; for the larger graphs, such a calculation is computationally prohibitive. In addition we study the implications of our algorithm to property testing in the bounded degree graph model. We prove that if the input graphs are restricted to graphs of girth ω(1) then every δ-robust spectral graph property is constant time testable, where a graph property is spectral if the set of graphs in the property can be specified by their spectra, and is δ-robust if the set of spectra consists of a core and all spectra with l1-distance at most δn to this core.

Laplacian Energy of a Fuzzy Graph

A concept related to the spectrum of a graph is that of energy. The energy E(G) of a graph G is equal to the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of G . The Laplacian energy of a graph G is equal to the sum of distances of the Laplacian eigenvalues of G and the average degree d(G) of G. In this paper we introduce the concept of Laplacian energy of fuzzy graphs. ...

The spectrum of the hyper-star graphs and their line graphs

Let n 1 be an integer. The hypercube Qn is the graph whose vertex set isf0;1gn, where two n-tuples are adjacent if they differ in precisely one coordinate. This graph has many applications in Computer sciences and other area of sciences. Inthe graph Qn, the layer Lk is the set of vertices with exactly k 1’s, namely, vertices ofweight k, 1 k n. The hyper-star graph B(n;k) is...

Characterizations of the simple group $D_{n}(3)$ by prime graph and spectrum

We prove that $D_n(3)$, where $ngeq6$ is even, is uniquely determined by its prime graph. Also, if $G$ is a finite group with the same prime graph as $D_4(3)$, then $Gcong D_4(3), B_3(3), C_3(3)$ or $G/O_2(G)cong {rm Aut}({}^2B_2(8))$.

Altan derivatives of a graph

Altan derivatives of polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons were recently introduced and studied in theoretical organic chemistry. We now provide a generalization of the altan concept, applicable to any graph. Several earlier noticed topological properties of altan derivatives of polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons are shown to be the properties of all altan derivatives of all graphs. Among these ar...
